My teaching is intuitive and spontaneous. There’s no step-by-step method, no copying, and no expectation of what your work “should” look like. The days unfold through doing, experimenting, getting stuck, getting unstuck, and seeing what happens when you allow it.
The workshops are now held at The Old Meeting House Studio, right on the High Street in Bewdley. It’s a beautiful, large Victorian meeting room with level access straight from the street, an easy loo, a huge kitchen, and a deck where we often eat lunch in the sunshine (or watch the birds, the fish, or even the steam trains trundle by).

All materials are provided, along with a seasonal vegetarian lunch each day, plus tea, coffee, cake, and prosecco mid-afternoon.
The Long Weekender

This is the heart of what I teach. Simple, familiar starting points, things you know, shapes you see every day, but perhaps haven't noticed them. It's the things you love, not me. I'll be there to guide you to push and pull them into something more abstract, more personal, and far more visually interesting.
We’ll focus on process, composition and colour, and the small decisions that make a painting work (or not). I don’t teach a linear method, and I never know what anyone will make, including me. That’s the point. You turn up, you do the work, and the stories evolve.
This workshop suits a mix of experience levels. You don’t need a plan or prior confidence. Beginners are supported to paint in a more forgiving way and often leave wondering why they ever thought they “couldn’t paint”. Returners usually leave marvelling at what they’ve been missing.

If you'd love to immerse yourself in art but are daunted by the prospect, I wholeheartedly recommend Sally's 3 day workshop. I came not just as a novice but as someone who believed from criticism I received as a teenager, I was not artistic. I was terrified but keen to see if I could learn how to create. From the moment you arrive Sally puts you at ease with a wonderful welcome into her home and studio. It's a place to truly inspire the inner artist. She showed us that rules, constrictions can be thrown out and that the key is to play, to experiment, to allow yourself freedom. Her encouragement was generous, challenging at times but always aimed at getting the best out of you and onto your canvas. My mind was blown with the amount of technique and skill that she shares both theoretically and practically. It was fascinating to witness how she works. It's an incredibly collaborative process, both with Sally and with the others at the workshop. I loved our little group and watching where we took ourselves. Sally offers so much, not just of herself and her art, but bringing us into her home, providing delicious food, encouraging us to paint in her garden overlooking the rooftops of Bewdley, keeping us hydrated in the heatwave and giving us that mid afternoon gin to see us through. And at the end of the three days I have a painting I am beyond proud of. Weird sensation for me. Thank you Sally for creating a magical space in so many ways, you enabled me to access my own magic. Had a wonderful 3 day workshop with Sally in Bewdley. She is a wonderful,vibrant,enthusiastic teacher, who really inspires everyone , no matter how much art experience they have had, and pushes them out of their comfort zone, to do things they probably would not have thought themselves capable of doing. It takes place in a beautiful studio,and delicious vegetarian lunches are served,as well as cake and Prosecco in the afternoon. Whats not to like!! Go Large!
3-Day large format workshop for painters with some experience

Go Large is for painters who already have a bit of confidence with acrylics and want to shake things up on a bigger board, with bolder marks, more risk, and more reward.
This isn’t just still life. The aim is to explore how these techniques can influence your own style and process, whatever you’re drawn to.
My teaching is still rooted in composition and colour, and in looking honestly at what makes a painting work, but the “subject” is secondary. It’s about how you build a painting, how you edit, resolve, and learn more control.
Developing one large 30x30 inch cradled wooden board, expect three days of working bravely, daring to go further with no planning and no expectation. No preciousness. Lots of doing, responding, adjusting, scraping back, and refining.

Please note - due to the scale of materials involved, including the increased price of large cradled boards, rising paint costs, and the intentionally small group size of just 5 people, the price of Go Large has increased from £395 to £425 for Autumn 2026.

Absolutely superb. My daughter and I attended the three day Go Large workshop. We have no painting experience, definitely no knowledge, but we were keen to learn having followed Sally on Instagram, loving her work and her outlook. Some in our group were professional artists - so a large range. We are totally delighted with the whole experience that Sally gave us. We want to keep painting and experimenting. We each have a picture that we want on our wall. 💕 My daughter and I, and the rest of our group, were supported and challenged individually throughout the three days. Each of us able to follow and discuss our own ideas.
