Watching my mum disappear in what feels like huge chunks, whilst watching my daughter’s beautiful belly swell with our first grandchild is grief and joy, light and shade… ❤️

Mum was hilarious yesterday.

She had no idea she was making me laugh, and inside I was crying as it’s bloody sad… however, I’ll take that moment of joy and add it my things to hold ❤️

The Chair is sitting waiting for me to decide if I need to do anymore to it… I don’t think so, but I’ll ponder a while, like you do.

See that face? That is me.

I’ve been very quiet here for a few weeks, grappling with a shite-storm It continues to engulf me but, as so many of you have kindly said, with elderly extremely vulnerable parents, this will pass and there will be lighter days. ❤️

Sometimes I get to a point where I need to reintroduce myself to me! Who actually am I?
I’ve become someone who cleans bums again apparently… let me explain🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

I am an artist who once nursed.
Not a nurse who always painted.
I took myself on a major scenic route to figure that out and now there is a gloriously-unapologetically chaotic version of me and why I do what I do.

The me I recognise teaches, but it’s more mentoring, it’s to show you that you can paint differently, be more forgiving and with more bravery.
Next week six more women walk through the door of The Old Meeting House Studio in Bewdley, for The June Immersive Painting Week. Five full days of painting, laughing, eating well and finding a braver version of themselves. I for one, cannot wait. I need this, oh so much!

The backs of the houses are hiding the perfect little cafe bar, they had the exact cake I needed and brought me a sensational long gin and tonic, no ice, just frozen fruit. The waiter was a god, I flirted dreadfully and cared less that he was half my age. The loo was beautiful and provided sunscreen, and fancy bum wipes, the ones you can flush obviously. The wall paper was a delicious cacophony of blousey flowers and the room smelt of geranium and basil.
Here the only care I had was finding a cushion for the rickety chair.

Painting can do that, for a short while anyway.

Raw emotion has to go somewhere.

There’s been a lull but I’m still here, just a quieter and more exhausted version.
I’m at that age where family stuff starts getting heavy, messy, and sad.

We’re dealing with 2x dementias, falls, brain injury and subsequent sudden loss of what I had.
The saddest part is that mum knows my face, but she knows nothing about me, nothing of what I’ve done over 58yrs. As a mum myself, that thought is unimaginably sad.

Yesterday I needed this moment. No plan, no outcome… just this without needing to explain it.

It’s just paint… but it holds more than people realise.

Bodies in the sun,
obediently sitting apart.

I sat there in my bra and knickers and nobody cared what I looked like.
No one cared what anyone looked like. Nobody came near.

Just humans sharing a bit of sky…the world seemed kinder when we were only scared of a virus.

On International Women’s Day, my message is one of joyous rebellion, and the importance of rest. ❤️
