Fig Tin. Acrylic on board, hand framed
Created during the slow, in-between days of New Year and early January 2025, this piece came to life amidst the gentle chaos of family life and the lingering traces of the festive season.
Its inspiration came from a humble tin of figs gifted by my daughter, and the quiet resilience of my favourite plants pushing through the tangled mess of a winter garden.
Created on a reloved 5mm board that found its way to me years ago, bearing a rather alarming portrait of a naked man. I never knew the artist or the model, nor how it ended up in my possession, but over the years it’s undergone several reincarnations. This version feels right, it feels settled, joyful, and complete.
The painting has been finished with cold wax for a glorious soft sheen and framed with care by Chris at Bewdley Framing. Unable to settle on a frame colour, I decided to hand-paint and wax it myself before the final fitting, and I think it suits it perfectly.
You’ll see a few photos of it in situ, whether it’s in the gallery window or standing tall on the easel, it holds its place proudly. And rightly so, as it's the namesake of my Gallery and Studio!
