Fig Tin
Created over New Year and early January 2025, this piece emerged amidst the chaos of family life and the remnants of festive celebrations. It was inspired by a tin of figs gifted by my daughter and the sight of my favorite plants pushing through the tangled mess of a winter garden.
The work is painted in acrylics on an old 5mm board that came to me years ago, bearing a rather alarming painting of a naked man. I never knew the donor or the subject, nor why it ended up with me, but over time, the board has gone through several transformations. This latest iteration is undoubtedly its best—and final—version.
The board itself has character. It’s not MDF but likely hardboard, with slightly fluffy edges that I adore. It would look stunning float-framed, allowing the raw edges and its storied history to be part of the presentation. Though the board is flexible, it’s robust, having endured heavy scraping and scratching during the creative process. The final piece is sealed with cold wax, adding a soft sheen and durability.
Framing can be arranged at an extra cost.
