I’m never going to settle for the obvious. If I’m painting three sunflowers, they have to be worked and reworked until they have something more to say. I want depth and interest, not a predictable composition.
 
I’m never settled until I’ve explored every idea that floods my head. As this one grew, I left its story visible on the board, letting the marks and shifts stay. It changed again and again until it finally felt right.
 
It’s painted on a 4cm deep cradled board, so it doesn’t need framing unless you want to treat it. The final stage of my process removes any texture and finishes with cold wax and buff, which leaves the surface feeling like the smoothest polished wood.
