Workshops & Classes
My perfect day is spending time in Fig Tin, surrounded by paintings, pottery and the detritus of a working studio and gallery. It's a wonderful thing being able to inspire others to lose themselves for a while and play freely with paint, without rules.

Let's Go Large at The Weekend!!
Fri 24th - Sun 26th April
ONLY 1 PLACE LEFT!

This workshop is for painters with a bit of confidence in acrylics — we’ll be working big on a 30x30 inch cm board, and I’ll be encouraging you to go bold, expressive, and a little rebellious with your brushes.
ā
Your large cradled wooden board will be prepped and ready, along with everything you’ll need for three wonderfully cosy, intimate days of painting in my fabulous Fig Tin Studio. I know what it’s like to lose track of time when you’re creating, so I’ll also provide a light lunch each day — think soup, salad, fresh bread, fruit… and obviously, cake and prosecco midafternoon so that we can stay tucked into our creative bubble all day.
Somewhat different from my 3-day weekend workshop, this time we’ll pour all our energy into one large semi-abstract piece. You’ll be working at the easel, following my own approach of starting with absolutely no plan — no sketching, no expectation, just diving in and seeing where the marks take us. And if you’re more experienced, I’ll guide you with techniques and prompts that might spark something fresh in your own style.
It’s the perfect way to shake off the winter grey and face the year with colour, courage and all the joy that connection, creativity and cake bring!

Here's what Lucy said... "I was looking to make time for myself to explore my creativity and banish some hang ups I’d acquired about ‘not being able to draw or paint’ Finding Sally and her fabulous Fig Tin studio felt very much like stepping out of the hum drum and challenges of life into a world of laughter, connection, colourful headspace and endless tea and cake. Sally is the most open and welcoming host and a phenomenal teacher, she generously shares and guides you through her unique process, and gives you the confidence to let go and find surprising compositions and mind blowing depth and textures. From a complete novice 3 years ago, I now paint regularly, I’ve grown in confidence and become much more experimental - painting has become a big part of my life and I can’t thank Sally enough for opening the door to endless creative possibilities. Check out her workshops - you won’t regret it, it’s the best gift you can give yourself".

What You Can Expect
Dive into three creative-packed days in my fabulous Georgian studio in the heart of Bewdley. I'll share my technique that I've developed over 30 years! No drawing or planning - just pure imagination using memories of stuff you love. I have no idea what you'll create as it will be completely spontaneous...but it will be wonderful!
ā
Who It's For
Anyone! It doesn't matter what experience you have! I'll provide you with everything you'll need - loads of help or space to do your thing. We'll focus on theory (but nothing too heavy!) it just helps to see how and why a painting works or doesn't, and for me, it's vital for adding depth and confidence to your art, no matter where you’re starting from.

I share all I can about my techniques...and my tea, my prosecco, and my cakes!
I provide you with absolutely everything you need, you just bring yourself!
ā
So it's like the 3 day workshop, but condensed, however there's plenty of time as I guide you through my process and examining the elements and principles that really matter, nothing heavy but you'll see they make sense and together with a large dose of 'yes you can', you'll discover how to create wonderful depth to your artwork, worthy of any wall!
āā
Who's it for?
Whether or not you have any experience is unimportant; I treat each of you as individuals and give you the support you need. Don't compare yourself to anyone else either; it's your experience that matters. My promise is that you can, and will, create wonderful art, maybe not immediately, but you will!
ā
There is no drawing involved, no planning, nor sketching, no copying, no muse, no real things to look at... it's all from your imagination, your memories, and your idea of what you want your painting to look like. I'm just there to show you how.

PLACES TO STAY
ā
Bewdley has many Airbnb and guest houses, some better than others,
and quite a varied price range! I'm not connected to any in particular
but here's a list of those recommended by past students and customers
ā
https://www.og-annexe.co.uk/ About 7-10 mins walk from the studio, beautiful, private, dog friendly and parking. owned by my friend Jade, it's really lovely. If you'd like to book here, let me know
āā
āhttps://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/the-clockhouse-bewdley. 3 minutes wqlk to the studio, they have 1 allocated parking space that might be available.
ā
āhttps://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/severn-valley-guest-house. 10 minute stroll back over the bridge, parking and display at the Severn Valley Railway
There are more, but these are the most used.
Hopley's Camping is a large campsite a mile up the hill, great farm shop, lovely cafe/bar and facilities. https://share.google/0UQbkUyyXyc8JjFVd
ā
Parking can be a pain for everyone, even residents. It's an old town and the car parks are all pay and display. Out of town, if you fancy a walk in, you will find a lot of on road parking.
ā
The Horn and Trumpet is a noisy bar - avoid that
The Courtyard has a noisy venue next door
Mingo Cottage I don't recommend as the owner was not helpful with my guests.
The Mug House was not up to standard, sadly, but the food is good.
ā
EATING OUT
ā
Bewdley has 4 great curry houses, a Thai, a Mediterranean, a great chippy, 2 Chinese take-aways, a fancy restaurant and a fair few pubs that do food, The Bewdley Brewery,oh and a huge Wetherspoons!
There's a Sainsbury’s and a Tesco, a sandwich deli, bakery, butcher, coffee shops, ice cream parlour, farm shop and an old fashioned sweet shop... you won't starve!
